I Don't Believe It, How Did He Do That?

Familiar thoughts from bystanders at an Aikido demonstration where people witness the graceful yet devastating power of this martial art.

Aikido, (pronounced eye-key-doe), was founded and devised in Japan by the renowned master of the martial arts Morihei Ueshiba, (1883-1969). Aikido now enjoys immense popularity all over the world and nowhere more so than in Scotland under Aikido UK and its foremost instructor, Sensei William Andrew.

Sensei Andrew is a man many would say of very ordinary size and strength, but who without doubt demonstrates quite extraordinary defence ability and Ki-power. A power which enables him to down and disarm knife wielding attackers almost twice his size, or to control and escape from an attack when surrounded on all sides by half a dozen assailants.

Ask Sensei Andrew how he does it, and he will say that it is not about muscle power, but the power of Ki-mind and body coordination. A power that every human being has, but which not everyone will get the chance to develop.

Aikido will teach you self defence. You will be more relaxed, more confident, calmer and more focused. You will look better and feel fitter! Aikido is not about destruction, it is about harmony and self control. It is practised by men and women, young and old alike, because apart from anything else it's great fun!

So why not come along and try? You don't need anything initially except a T-shirt and a pair of track suit trousers, we will help you do the rest. Like all of us, in time you will find that the only regret you have about Aikido is that you didn't start earlier!

I don’t believe it!
